Job Title: School Psychology Specialist

Contract Days:  190

 

The School Psychology Specialist is directly supervised and evaluated by Assistant to the Superintendent for Student Support Services/Director of Special Services.

Qualifications of Employment:

  • Masters degree or higher in the field of school psychology OR licensure as a psychological examiner/psychologist and masters degree or higher in a related field.
  • Knowledge of IDEA rules and regulations including required time lines and special education requirements.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 Rehabilitation Act and its role in the educational process.
  • Knowledge of various disability categories and how they relate to special education.
  • Knowledge of a variety of assessment instruments and experience conducting psychoeducational evaluations.
  • Experiencing interpreting assessment results to multidisciplinary team members that can include faculty members and parents.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  School psychologists have specialized training in both psychology and education. They use their training and skills to team with educators, parents, and other mental health professionals to ensure that every child learns in a safe, healthy and supportive environment.

  • To assess psychological and educational needs of referred students and consults with appropriate persons regarding implications and results
  • To provide written report of assessments with educational recommendations to adhere with Federal and State regulations governing special education under the Individuals with Disabilities Improvement Education Act (2004)
  • To provide interpretation of evaluation results and aide in the development of Individual Educational Plans (IEP) as an evaluation conference member, when appropriate
  • To participate in evaluation programming conferences, annual reviews, data reviews and IEP meetings at various schools within the district as needed
  • To maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information
  • To assist school personnel in the location, identification and placement of special education students
  • To maintain accurate record keeping system of assessment data in a confidential manner

 

 

  • To demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, parents, students and community
  • To assist in the interpretation of special services to school personnel, parents, patrons and community groups
  • Additional opportunities are available for School Psychologists to serve in behavioral and mental health counseling roles.
  • Other duties as assigned.
